Each year, 18 to 22 graduating high school seniors and 20 to 26 transfer students are selected to receive Terry Scholarships to support their attendance at UTSA. Terry Scholarships are awarded to UTSA students who graduate from Texas high schools or transfer from Texas colleges and demonstrate promise of future leadership. The goal of the Foundation is to assist these students in developing their future and the future of those around them.
The principal selection criteria are demonstrated potential and financial need. The Terry Foundation hopes that Terry Scholars will have a significant impact on the future leadership of the state and nation.
Terry Transfer Scholars receive $16,000 per year for up to 3 years. The amount of a Terry award for an incoming high school student is determined by the Terry Foundation. For new freshmen, the Foundation takes into account the student's and parents' financial resources and provides sufficient assistance beyond that to cover tuition, books, fees, and reasonable living expenses on campus.
Awards average $72,000 over a four-year period.
In all cases, renewal of the award beyond the first year is determined by the Foundation's Board of Directors.
